How to Bring Your Wedding Colour Palette to Life: Expert Tips for a Stunning Celebration

Your wedding colour palette is the secret ingredient that ties everything together, creating a celebration that feels beautifully cohesive and uniquely yours.

Whether bold and dramatic or soft and subtle, your chosen colours can weave through every element of your day, from the florals and décor to attire, stationery, and even the lighting.

Recently, while gardening in my small inner west Sydney garden, I found myself inspired by these vibrant blooms. They instantly reminded me of a Tequila Sunrise—rich corals, zesty oranges, and golden yellows blending beautifully. A spark of creativity led me to create this post, showing how you can use this striking colour palette to craft a celebration that’s bold, joyful, and utterly unique. Whether you’re drawn to big, impactful statements or subtle, harmonious details, these tips will help you plan a wedding that’s a true reflection of your love story.

When bringing your wedding colour palette to life there are many elements you can consider, let’s start with the flowers.

Consider the style and any specific flowers that hold meaning for you, opting for seasonal blooms to align with sustainability. You’ll need to also consider your budget, and how you want to prioritise this across the many floral designs that are possible.
Below are a list of common designs that you can consider:

  • Wedding party personal florals
  • Ceremony installation ie: plinth urns, an arbour, or large aisle installation
  • A personalised welcome sign installation
  • Reception seating chart installation
  • Bar florals
  • Guest table florals
  • A hanging installation
  • Wedding head table florals

Plinth designs, can be used in the ceremny set up, the reception or across both. Great for framing the entrance to your cocktail hour (tequila sunrises of course)
Ground level floral extension designs that bring the arbour out and around the couple. Elevating the impact of the colour palette in every ceremony photo taken!
The aisle florals extend up to the main installation, an arbour to frame the couple.

Extend your palette into the décor with table linens, napkins, and candles. Consider choosing pillar candles or votives in your chosen hues to weave colour across the room, with the added glow of candlelight enhancing warmth and ambiance.

Opt for coloured glass candle holders
Gold cutlery and candle holders add to the cohesiveness of the palette. Choosing table runners and napkins in colour will also add more, and help lift the styling of the guest tables. A great trick when you don't have the budget to add a lot, only a little.
Bud vases for smaller pops of colour, and small tealight coloured glass votives for a more budget friendly option.
Pillar candles in several colours add to the fun of the theme.

Let your stationery tie it all together, from the invitations to the menu cards, and make a statement with an installation welcome sign that introduces your palette as guests arrive.

Your wedding party’s attire is another perfect opportunity to incorporate the colours, and you could even invite guests to join in by wearing something that complements the theme. Finish with fun touches like a signature cocktail that matches the palette and a dessert table with colour-themed treats, creating a celebration where every detail feels intentional and beautifully coordinated.

“Kris was recommended to me by a close friend for wedding flowers and she did not disappoint. The wedding process was a bit daunting for me and Kris took the time to have a chat about styles, flower sustainability and budget. Kris was amazing to deal with throughout the whole engagement, is sustainable and super understanding and smiley to boot. Love what Kris did for us on the day and would recommend Kris to anyone looking for wedding flowers.”
