Why Sustainable Floristry Matters To Us

Sustainable Floral Design

What is sustainable floristry In short, sustainable floristry is a commitment to learn more, share knowledge, remove unsustainable practices, prioritise the health of the environment and people, respect the materials used, and reduce the environmental footprint. Sustainability in Practice

Urn arrangement filled with flowers including cafe au lait dahlias, pink garden roses, pink and peach lisianthus and lime branches, with red and green grapes and figs on white organza fabric

How do we put it all into practice? Floral foam is not the only issue we need to tackle when we look at improving sustainability in floristry. As a fellow floral wrangler once said to me, floral foam is like a gateway drug to sustainability, and it’s true, it was the launching pad of my […]

‘Sustainability is about asking a lot of questions, all of the time!’ –  Q&A with Botany florist and owner, Ellen Douglas

A woman with long red hair stands at the right side of the frame, facing the left. She wears a long terracotta coloured jacket and white pants, she is smiling and looking downward at a dried floral arrangement she holds. The flowers are dried grasses, with earthy toned dried straw flowers, in yellows, and oranges. There is also dried hydrangea and thistle.

It’s crazy to think that in an industry known for working with natures own beauty, the promotion of sustainability is not widespread. With a commitment to sustainable floristry comes the desire to find our florist friends striving for the same positive outcomes, our fellow champions in the flower fields, the wielders of stems, the cheerleaders valiantly cheering us on with foliage pom poms.

Songs to Swoon to

A great playlist is like a well-mixed cocktail – a little bit of this, a little bit of that, and a whole lot of goodness. And let me tell you, this playlist is the bee’s knees (I may be a tad biased, but I did put it together). If you’re digging the tunes – hit […]

Bump in and bump out

Bump, WHAT? DEMYSTYFYING WHAT BUMP IN, AND BUMP OUT REALLY MEANS Ah, industry jargon. It’s so very easy to assume that everyone understands the words we use across all of our different professions. As a nurse I know this happens in the medical field all the time, we forget the streams of complex instructions and […]
